Competition Time

Competition time! Clipart of child friendly warwickshire bear with painters pallet and camera in hand, recording himself having a jolly ol' time

We believe being child friendly means that every child and young person should be Happy, Healthy, Skilled, Safe and Heard. The Child Friendly Warwickshire competition is asking children and young people to create a piece of artwork that reflects these five outcomes, contribute to discussions on how we make the county more child friendly and become advocates for positive change.

Could you win £2,500 for your school or college?

The competition challenges children and young people in Warwickshire to think about what the Child Friendly Warwickshire outcomes and the themes mentioned above mean to them, suggesting how each of us can take action to be more child friendly. Each of the age category winners will win £2,500 for their school or college. The school or college will then be able to spend this money on projects related to the five Child Friendly Warwickshire outcomes and themes that have come out of our recent engagement with children and young people:

  • Increased climate change awareness
  • Better access to mental health support
  • More open green spaces
  • More opportunities and careers advice
  • Access to more clubs and activities
  • Increased cost of living support
  • Progress on the Safer Streets programme

The winner's work will also form part of a showcase for children, young people and professionals at the Warwickshire Youth Conference taking place in November 2023.

Entries should be submitted by the competition deadline of 27 February 2023.

Who can enter?

Children and young people aged 4 to 21 (inclusive), and SEND young people aged 4 to 25 (inclusive) who are in full-time education in Warwickshire. They should enter the category for their age at the time of entry:

  • Ages 4-7
  • Ages 8-11
  • Ages 12-15
  • Ages 16-21 (up to 25 for SEND young people)

How to enter

To apply, simply answer the question:

'What does being Child Friendly mean to you?

You recently told us that you are concerned about climate change and the cost of living, want more open green spaces and access to mental health support. You’d also like more opportunities such as clubs and activities and careers advice, and to see progress on the Safer Streets programme, and that these things would help to create a Child Friendly Warwickshire.  We need your help to bring these ideas to life by creating a piece of artwork that reflects these themes.

Your entry can be in any of the following formats:

  • any form of artwork – drawing, painting, any artistic medium
  • a video
  • an animation
  • a written response of up to 300 words
  • a song/rap
  • a sculpture
  • or a photograph

Please submit your work (or ask a parent/carer/guardian/teacher submit on your behalf) by emailing childfriendly@warwickshire.gov.uk with your name, age, your school’s name and school address - don't forget to attach your entry!

Prizes:

The winner from each of the age categories will win £2,500 for their school or college to spend on Child Friendly Warwickshire related projects. What the money is spent on is up to the school or college. All we ask is that:

  • It links to one (or more!) of the themes from our recent consultation: children and young people have told us that they are concerned about climate change and the cost of living, want more open green spaces and access to mental health support. They’d also like more opportunities such as clubs and activities and careers advice, and to see progress on the Safer Streets programme.
  • It benefits the school/college and surrounding communities

The winners and runners-up from each of the age categories will be invited to be part of an exhibition on display at the Warwickshire Youth Conference 2023 in November 2023. Organised by young people, for young people, this event will offer a friendly and empowering environment to discuss important topics that are facing them today with the organisations who are making a difference in the community, amplifying the voices of tomorrow to help shape the county.
