Think Active's Wellbeing Festival
On Friday, Child Friendly Warwickshire friend Think Active hosted a Wellbeing Festival for Year 6 pupils from schools in Nuneaton.
In collaboration with the Northern Warwickshire Schools Sport Partnership, the children were able to try a range of wellbeing activities, delivered by Young Leaders from a local secondary school.
Throughout the day, pupils got to try out a number of activities linked to health and wellbeing. The activities were devised with the following aspects in mind, aiming to support overall wellbeing:
- being active - lots of physical sports challenges to try, including archery
- being connected - an opportunity to be social and meet new friends during team building activities
- being mindful - pupils discussed how being active with friends makes them feel and took part in yoga mindfulness sessions
- keep learning - some alternative sports that used new skills were on offer
- being healthy - pupils played some games related to healthy eating and lifestyle e.g. calorie dodgeball/eat well plate encouraging them to make healthy food choices
- being resilient - some of the challenges were personal best challenges promoting perseverance/self-belief and resilience
The festival was organised by Think Active, the Active Partnership for Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire and the Northern Warwickshire Schools Sports Partnership. The festival was sponsored by Saputo Dairy UK - Saputo’s cheese packing facility is based in Nuneaton, and staff from the site volunteered on the day to help with the activities. Representatives from Coventry and Warwickshire Mind, Child Friendly Warwickshire and Everyone Active also came along to support the event, which took place at the Pingles Stadium.
Over 240 young people attended in total, with activities aimed at encouraging the children to think about their wellbeing linking directly to our Child Friendly Warwickshire ambitions to be happy, healthy and skilled. Well done and congratulations to Think Active for hosting such a fantastic event!
